From a very early age, I have always wanted to be a healthcare professional because of my love for the sciences and my caring nature. I thrive on the clinical challenges that are presented to me and find the close relationships I build with patients very rewarding. Dentistry has proved to be the perfect career for me, allowing me to continually develop my clinical skills through postgraduate education while being able to care for my patients as individuals.
After qualifying from Guy’s Hospital in 1995, I moved to Brighton and went on to complete twelve months Vocational Training in a dental practice that focused on dealing with Oral Surgery cases often with Intravenous Sedation.
I then spent four years working as a dental associate in family based practices within the Brighton and Hove area. Having gained wide experience working in both NHS and Private practices, I was keen to develop my interest in Oral
Surgery. I therefore spent a year working at King’s College Hospital, London working in the Oral Surgery & Maxillo-facial department dealing with emergencies and treating cases that had been referred by practitioners.
During this time, I completed my MFDS qualification and became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons. This is the highest clinical qualification for dental practitioners. I continue to attend courses regularly in order to maintain my professional development.
As a dentist I derive great satisfaction from helping nervous patients work through their fears and gradually encourage them to accept dental treatment. I firmly believe that time spent talking and listening to my patients is time well invested when the results mean my patients can enjoy the benefits of oral health. However, where a calm and gentle approach alone is not enough then I am happy to offer Intravenous Sedation to allow us to achieve our treatment goals.
I provide all aspects of general dentistry to adults and children including cosmetic work, restoring implants and preventative treatments. I also carry out surgical cases that are referred to me from local dentists. I believe in complete patient care and rarely need to refer my patients elsewhere other than for Specialist care.
I feel very strongly about the importance of protecting teeth from injury during contact sports. I have worked with schools and clubs in the area making mouth guards for adults and children.
I also made mouth guards for Professional rugby players such as the Saracens and for the Samoan Rugby Team during the World Cup. I am still able to provide mouthguards, please contact the surgery for more information.
I am very fortunate to have lovely Sofie working with me, she has a very caring nature. Her professionalism and positive attitude means she is a joy to work with.
Outside of dentistry I am mum to my two gorgeous boys. I am also a committed hockey player and have been playing for Brighton and Hove Hockey club for several years.
I hope this gives you an insight into my practice philosophy, I look forward to meeting you at your Consultation visit.
