Mr James W Aukett
BDS MSc DDPH RCS (Eng) 1972 Birmingham
GDC No 45942
I
qualified as a Dental Surgeon at Birmingham University
in 1972 and entered the Community Dental Service. Following
the award of the Diploma in Dental Public Health of the
Royal College of Surgeons In 1974, General Dental Practice
was followed by a two year tour of duty as Chief Dental
Officer to the Gambia, West Africa. After my return,
my appointment as District Dental officer to Brighton
Health Authority in 1984 and Clinical Director of Dental
Services to South Downs Health Authority in 1984 and
Clinical Director of Dental Services to South Downs Health
NHS Trust in 1992, enabled me to gain post-graduate degrees
in Management Science and in Health Education. During
this time I lectured at the United Dental Hospital in
London, and still lecture at Guy's, King's and St Thomas's
dental school where I hold the post of course tutor for
various modules in post-graduate degrees for dentists.
My
wife, Frances, works With me to manage our family orientated
practice. Her teaching qualification was followed by
a post-graduate diploma and Masters degree in Health
Education and Health Promotion. During a successful career
in Health Education where she worked extensively in public
health and sat on many working parties and committees
on health issues, Frances qualified as a dental nurse
in 1989. She has lectured to nurses, hygienists and dentists
as part of their training and entered General Dental
Practice with me in 1997.
Following my successful
career in athletics where I represented Great
Britain on many occasions, I went on to coach
and tutor in athletics and fitness training. These
activities, and France's Career as a very sought
after fitness tutor, ended a few years ago. Since
our two children married and departed the nest
we have concentrated on running our practice according
to the following principles:
- We aim to treat our patients with the same care and attention we would wish for ourselves and our families.
- Patients are partners in the care we provide and are involved in all decisions about their dental care.
- All care and treatment will be provided
using the most appropriate materials and procedures
in the best and safest environment we can provide.
